We credited Eli Roth with the creation of the “torture porn” sub-genre of movies - a subsection of film where creative and graphic ways of torturing victims on screen superseded plot or character development. I think it’s time to give Roland Emmerich credit for the disaster porn sub-genre.

I’ve talked before about the value of marketing a movie through an appropriate release date. Capitalizing on a good release date can mean a lot of free marketing for a movie, especially if a studio can somehow get a close association between that release date and public awareness of the movie.
