Margaret's Trailer Park: Killers

From the looks of the trailer for the new movie Killers you would think this is the classic, boy meets girl type movie where the suave guy, Spencer, sweeps the down home girl, Jen, off her feet. Through the course of their budding relationship we discover the guy’s life isn’t as simple as we were led to believe. The audience comes to find, right alongside the girl, that Spencer is some type of secret agent with a dangerous job in which she’s stuck coming along for the ride. The problem? That’s not the plot at all.

According to IMDB.com’s synopsis of Killers the real story focuses on the couple after they have already been married for three years as they discover someone is trying to kill Spencer. While the trailer portrays Killers as a kind of quirky love story, cute yet dangerous, and told from Jen’s point of view, the synopsis reads as Spencer’s story with action, paranoia about anyone close to them, and some comedic relief. So, what story exactly is Lionsgate trying to sell? The couples story? Or the running-from-the-enemy story?

To make matters worse, the film stars Ashton Kutcher and Katherine Heigl, and the characters look to be thin and bland, without bring much more substance to the screen than a few dimples. Sure, they have pretty faces and they are capable of saying lines, but there doesn’t seem to be any chemistry or acting ability here. If the delivery of lines seems this flat in the trailer, how will the entire film play out?

Not set to come out until the beginning of June, about the only way Killers will attract much of a crowd is if they create a trailer which shows the story potential for what it is. As it stands right now the trailer feels very geared for the female audience looking to fall in love with Ashton, and in the heat of the summer movie season, Killers won’t stand a chance.
